Mountain Mama

When I was on maternity leave, I got a tiny bit lonely.  I’m not complaining for a minute- I LOVED being at home with Ben.  But the lack of adult interaction did get to me a little bit.  I would surf the web while feeding Ben.  One morning at 4am, I logged on to Facebook to see what my little brother was up to.  I signed up for an account and made him my “friend.”  Then I found my sister.  Before long, I found several real-life friends on Facebook.  It was really neat.  Soon, people were “finding” me!  I’ve reconnected with several high school and college friends that I haven’t seen or heard from in years.  It’s been really interesting catching up.  It’s sort of like magic- like people didn’t exist for years and then suddenly they are there again, only now they have 3 kids and live in Kansas!

But I have to wonder, is it really magic?  I have to admit to having a couple “facebook friends” that I’m not sure I’ve ever talked to in real life.  Are they really my friends?  And regarding the old friends I’ve “reconnected” with- is it really a connection when they are just a face on a list?

This morning, Ben waved for the first time!  I’m so proud!  There have been a few times in the last few days when I thought he might be waving, but I wasn’t sure.  Today it was definite.  We were in Target and a lady waved and smiled at him.  I actually didn’t see her at first.  Ben was sitting in the cart and he started smiling, then he held up his hand and opened and closed his fingers several times while looking at her.  It was so cute!  His hand was “backwards” – he sort of waved at himself while looking at the lady.  Later, he waved at me the same way.  Then, this afternoon, 2 ladies came up to him in another store.  He smiled at them and I could see his hand down by his side opening and closing.  They didn’t see it though.  Then, when they left, he held it up and waved at them.  Yay, Ben!

Ben is 9 months old today!  Next week, he goes for his checkup.  He’s starting to use his “walk-behind” truck.  He’s so proud of himself when he makes it all the way across the living room!

Hooray!  I finally figured out how to post pictures on WordPress and get them to be the right size!

Ben’s eye cleared up.  He is back to the “regular” blocked tear duct problem. 

He is really starting to babble a lot.  It’s starting to sound like he’s really trying to have a conversation!  One of his favorite pasttimes is chasing the cats.  He is starting to stand unassisted for longer periods of time.  The other day, he stood for about 5 seconds!  Tim got so excited, he exclaimed, “Ben, you’re standing!,” which distracted Ben enough to make him fall!
